Authentic Chocolate Caliente Español

a spanish heritage recipe

PREPARATION TIME
18 MINUTES

INGREDIENTS

6 oz Mexico 72% chocolate, chopped

2 cups milk

2 tbsp maicena (or masa harina)

2-3 tbsp sugar

Pinch of cinnamon

Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)

STEP BY STEP

Chop 6 oz of Chocolat-e Mexico 72% chocolate. Measure milk, sugar, maicena, and spices

Heat 2 cups milk gently in saucepan. Make maicena slurry with cold milk.

Add chocolate and maicena mixture. Whisk continuously as chocolate melts. Continue whisking and simmering. Watch for the perfect thick, velvety consistency

Serve immediately in small cups with churros!

This is the legendary hot chocolate that Spanish conquistadors fell in love with in Moctezuma’s court. Unlike any hot chocolate you’ve tried – thick enough to coat a churro, yet smooth enough to drink.
